About Us

Our research theme is "human-symbiotic intelligent systems (computers and agents)" that share humans' living spaces and assist with their activities by various means.

We anticipate that the systems will be friendlier and more reliable for humans if they can not only carry out given commands passively but also try to assist humans actively by tactful and considerate actions. However, such "tactfulness" and "consideration" occasionally turn to "meddling." The systems must provide appropriate services with appropriate timing for the user's purpose and Kansei. Our laboratory studies advanced sensing, recognition, and human-computer/agent interaction technologies to achieve genuinely "tactful and considerate" intelligent systems.
