Our research theme is "human-symbiotic intelligent systems (computers and robots)" that share humans' living spaces and assist with their activities by various means.
We anticipate that the systems will be friendlier and more reliable for humans if they can not only carry out given commands passively but also try to assist with humans actively by tactful and considerate actions. However, such "tactfulness" and "consideration" occasionally turn to "meddling." The systems are required to provide appropriate services with appropriate timing for the user's own purpose and Kansei. We study the advanced technologies for sensing, recognition, and human-computer/robot interactions to achieve truly "tactful and considerate" intelligent systems.
